About a minute after moving to NYC from L.A. to work with my friends at Done.com, I took on the responsibility of throwing a party to celebrate the public launch of our site. I needed a venue, food, drinks, and music to make this party a party, and time was not on my side (I had less than a month to plan).
I was in WAY over my head (don’t tell my bosses that though :-). How was I going to plan a launch party for 400 guests in a city I had never lived in?
I’ll tell you how I did it. I did it by hiring amazing Doers using Done.com.
We found our event space through the friend of one of our Doers.
We hired Ania W. and Jen O. to D.J. the event.
Peter M and Tim N were on board to bartend.
Candy H helped plan the party while Deepika worked on preparing all the food.

Sue L. was in charge of baking cookies because you can’t have a party without dessert in my opinion.
Then, I sent an email to around 20 of our Doers asking if anyone would volunteer to help out before, during, or after the party. I was overwhelmed by how many people responded saying they’d be happy to help. I felt like I was on a hippie commune, not New York City!
Okay, I know this sounds cheesy but the party really did exceed all of my expectations. The music was perfect, the bartenders professional, the food was great, and everyone pitched in to help in any way they could. Doer Paul E., an illustrator, took it upon himself to bring his sketchpad and drew amazing and hilarious caricatures of partygoers. It was my favorite addition to the party!

When I got up to give my toast, I almost cried as I looked around the room at all of the people who helped make the party a success and NYC feel like a community.
